Checking Out Some Social Networking Sites

As we all know that social networking is a source of communication bringing people on one platform. There are number of social networking sites and the trend is growing every day. The first ever social networking website i went on was hi5.com .I used it to connect to one of my cousin overseas. A trend started all of my cousins from all around the world got into hi5 .I had a my space and facebook account which is still active but i dont use it anymore.Below is the explanation of four websites which i have visited with general information and personal experience.

Facebook:

Facebook was launched in February, 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg. Microsoft has paid $240 Million for a 1.6% stake in Facebook.The website is worth almost $ 15 Billion. Facebook has almost 70 Million users.

1) Logging to facebook is with your email and password.
2) It is famous among college and high school students mostly.
3) It has a wall post instead of comments.
4) It has the leading number of applications as compared to other sites.
5) The layout of facebook seems very complicated for begiingers.
6) It has private messages , photos, videos , music .
7) It has a status bar e.g online now.
8) You can add information about your college.


My Space:

Myspace was launched in August, 2003 by Tom Anderson. My space has also more than 185 Million users.My space is also being claimed to be worth close to $ 15 Billion or more.

1) My Space requires you to add a digit in your password which makes it complicated. e.g                  Password: 23jksl34
2) First page has a lot of background advertisement and advertising videos playing.
3) It has comments, private messages, custom background as html code, songs, videos and                much more.
4) My space has a mood option e.g. mood : happy
5) It has a status bar e.g online now.
6) My space remains on the top of other when it comes to customizing your page. You can set 7)     your page as you like. e.g your buttons or cursor.
7) If the profile is not set on private you can view the page regardless of you signing in. But for         other networks you need to login first to view any page.
8) You can list of your school and college.

Orkut:

Orkut was founded in January 2004 by Orkut Büyükkökten. It is owned by Google. It has almost 120 million users. Orkut has not many users in United States but Asia is primarily market.

1) Orkut has a fan community.
2) It has personal messages, videos, applications, and photos.
3) It has no music option but with the help of some applications you can get it but confusing              process.
4) It has a scrap book.
5) It has testimonials as compared to comments or wall post.
6) It is famous in Brazil and Asia as compared to Europe or America.
7) Orkut has a blog section.


Friendster:


Friendster has almost 70 million users. It was launched in March 2002 by Jonathan Abrams .It is the one of the oldest networking among the others, yet it has the lowest market share.

1) Friendster was born before Orkut, Facebook or Myspace.
2) It has list of fans as compared to friends.
3) It has personal messages, comments, videos, photos and applications.
4) There were not many options about customizing your page in the previous years but now you 5) can setup your background and music.
6) It has a blog option.
7) Friendster user interference is very easy and recommended for new users who have never          been on any network before.
